WELCOME!

Your host, Savannah native Gerald Schantz, has a fascinating background. He is a Vietnam-era Navy veteran with a creative side. He expressed his interest in art by becoming a professional stained-glass artisan and owner of Aurora Stained Glass. He also felt the need to pursue an acting career, which led him to perform in local theater productions as well as feature-length films produced in and around the Savannah area.

That theater connection provided him with an opportunity to cater a private party for a famous TV show’s cast and crew. Gerald created the event for the staff of “This Old House” and it was a huge success! The host of the party was the author of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, John Berendt.

Because of that event, the show’s producer commissioned Gerald to cater the company’s wrap party in downtown Savannah’s Monterey Square. Building on his growing reputation as a creative caterer for discriminating clients, he decided to open Gerald’s Chuckwagon…a rolling catering service.

That was the building block for the next step, Gerald’s Diner in downtown Savannah. It was time to sell his stained-glass business and concentrate on what he enjoyed most – creating unique dishes, served with Southern hospitality. The diner’s success led to his decision to take his culinary skills to his favorite location…his beloved Tybee Island.

Starting with a food truck known as Gerald’s Pig & Shrimp, he quickly received rave reviews and won many awards. This recognition led to the restaurant being selected for an episode of Food Paradise that they called “Cruising the Coast.” We are also thrilled to receive praise from Southern Living!

In 2019 the food truck became the restaurant you are enjoying today. We are proud to welcome you! Please enjoy the flavor and atmosphere of the island and the rich history that led to this spot – a true Food Paradise!
